Building a flashtool: Required Tools and Materials
I will only talk about NAND flashing here because that's the only type I have done.
Although the same tools and materials are required for NOR flashing (requires different 360clip) because the teensy can do both.
In order to build a nand flash tool you will need:
Soldering Equiptment:
Soldering Station (I suggest a hakko fx-888D the one on top of the hot air gun)
The flash tool is fairly simple to build but first you require knowledge of basic soldering.
There are many youtube videos which cover beginners soldering.
In order to build the tool once you have all the equiptment:
Set up your equiptment an open area so you aren't inhaling solder fumes
Start by soldering the diodes resistors and LEDs
Hold the PCB in place with the third hand.
Sharply bend the leads and place the component through the holes.
Once through the holes bend leads again in the direction of the conductor trace to prevent component from falling out.
Clean and tin the solder iron tip. (see first video)
Touch the iron tip to both the hole and the lead. (see first video)
Add solder by first touching the iron then the lead.
Cut off leads with your sidecutters
Solder the headers and header sockets in place following the same process above.
Do the same for the teensy and the 360clip connector pairing sockets with headers.
SMT solder the voltage regulator onto the bottom of the teensy.
For NAND flashing we need to put jumpers on all of the connections shown in the picture.
Push in the teensy, the 360clip connector attaching the ribbon cable to the 360clip.
You finished the building the flash tool!
